Class Highlights

I do view media in a different way than I did before. Before taking this class I thought media was just something I was not interested in, something that took up too much of everyone's time so I hardly ever bothered with it. After taking this class I realized that I am so disconnected from media that I have to get connected to keep up with the society today. Not meaning that I will always be using media, but at least more than I do now. When we took the media literacy test for the homework assignment, my score was not that great and that was what first showed me that I needed to connect, then after attending classes and not being able to participate in a lot of the activities we did on the board, I realized I really need to start getting into media and doing things with it, even if it is to watch a movie.

Media Ethics/Media Law

This case is about a guy named Condit who got a tattoo. His tattoo artist made the design himself before tattooing it onto Condit. There was a video game produced by THQ inc., which they tried to make the character Condict as close to the person himself, so they had to put the tattoo he has on the character in the video game. The Tattoo artist then sued THQ inc. for copyright of the tattoo.

I feel that this was blown out of proportion. It is not like they are making flyers or posters of the tattoo and posting them places. It is a game trying to closely depict Condit as best they can, which included everything that is on his body that is visible.

Local Business

The local Business that I decided to look at was Bobby K Salon.
I looked at their yelp page, and they had very good reviews. The customer's that complained or that had a terrible experience with this salon all had the same complaint. Their complaint was that the hair stylist that would do their hair did not listen to a word the customer said. Instead of listening they did the same haircut over and over again every time they would go into the salon. They disliked this because it messed up their hair and made them embarrassed and upset to even show their hair in public. So, I think they need to develop better listening skills and give what the customer wants, instead of doing what they want. I think they could also improve by making a website for their salon. right now their online presence is not that effective because they only have a yelp and a facebook like page.

Movies

My favorite movie of 2012 would have to be the Avengers because it was a funny movie and had much action in it. I really liked the story line that it had and how it brought my favorite heroes together. At the end of each movie that these characters once played in they had a continuation that led to the buildup of this move which I really liked because it followed everything correctly. I saw this movie in the movie theater when it came out.

My all time favorite movie would be My Big Fat Greek Wedding because it reminds me a lot of my family. This movie has a lot of chaos with the family and shows that they do have a lot of fun with one another. I feel like this relates to me because my family is big and does have a lot of chaos yet can have fun too. This movie also has a lot of culture into it which is really neat to watch when movies have cultures in them.

Magazine Proposal

Marvelous lifestyle

Concept: this magazine is different because it would give people advice on how to live a better life or to better improve in different areas. It would not tell them how to live but show them by example and how it helps others.

Readers: This could be for anyone from age 16-35 because this age group is constantly growing and learning new things. This would also be best for Spiritual or religious backgrounds. It would be for any male or female.

Competition: This magazine is different because not only does it show by example, but it would also have different categories of improvement from doing service, helping others, getting in touch with nature, eating healthy, exercising, getting in touch spiritually/religiously.

Books

• The Kite Runner: This book was the first book I actually sat down and read. Throughout school I never cared to read so I never did. This book is the book that got me to actually start reading and changed my view on life in general. I remember reading this book for the first time and I could not put it down but I also hated it because of the stuff that was going on with the story line.
• Have a little faith:After reading this book I felt I had to get more involved and not turn so much down since I always did. I felt that just because I did not like certain things or did not get involved that it did not matter but after reading this book doing new things even if we do not want to gives us room to grow and may change our life in a great way.
• Einstein's dreams: This is another of my favorites that I have read. I read this book within the past 2 years and really enjoyed it. It brought on a new perspective about time and space. How things are and just made me have a deeper thought about certain things.
